A Guide To Seasonal Wedding Flowers: August
There is something beautiful about imperfection. I think this is why I am instinctively drawn to the natural contours of wildflowers and homegrown crops.
Nothing is perfectly straight, so although it can be a challenge to work with, I just like that happy whimsical look you get from garden grown blooms, as opposed to perfectly shaped identical industrial grown ones!
When I make a bouquet, I will do my utmost to match your outfits, and I guarantee, that it will be handmade with Aeroe love!
When I think of the flower of August, I think of dahlias! And since they come in all shades it’s really only the imagination that sets the limit to how daring you will be with your summer bridal colour scheme!
The first thing I look at when I see a picture of a bride is the bouquet! Not the dress, hairstyle or shoes, but the bridal bouquet. I think it’s an important accessory that ties everything together and brings a little extra personality to the bride’s look.
We are constantly trying to be as sustainable as possible, not only for the sake of the environment, but also because I would like to share a piece of Aeroe with you! So naturally we need locally grown flowers in the bouquets that I make! And thanks to Sigridsminde, we are well on our way to being self-sufficient with our bouquets, confetti and flower decorations. I am also lucky that my latest collaborator, Morten, from the West side of the island, allows me to harvest from his beautiful dahlia patch, for which he gets champagne in return! A fair and proper trade off, don’t you think?
It’s a long drive to Morten’s place (by Aeroe standards that is), indeed a whole 20 minutes each way, but this means that I have more places I can make stops along the way to pick wild flowers and grasses to compliment the main star of the season.
Last week, while it was still hot and buttery summer-golden evening light, Camilla and I drove out there to capture a few photos of Morten’s dahlia heaven and productive garden and handpick Dahlias for next day’s bouquets.
