Our close-knit team here at Danish Island Weddings work hard to create a care-free wedding day for you that is effortlessly rooted in everything our charming Danish island has to offer.

On this page we’ll give you an overview of the process involved in planning your Denmark wedding with us.

Step 1: Booking and Documents

  • Send us the DIW Booking Form to help us get all details right for your wedding day.

  • Discuss the application process with us, and prepare your documents.

Step 2: Stress-free Wedding Planning

  • We will ensure you have the right documentation.

  • We will assist with the approval process with the Agency of Family Law which can take anywhere from 7 days to a few months, depending on your particular situation.

  • Confirm Date With Local Authorities & Registrar When everything is approved, we will confirm your preferred wedding date with the local authorities and ceremonial Registrar, ensuring all details are in place.

  • Book Venue We will reserve your chosen Ærø venue (If you have chosen an outdoor ceremony location, we will always have a bad-weather indoor back-up plan in place). And because we have exclusive access to our venues there is no risk of double bookings etc.

  • Recommendations We have planned weddings and elopements on Ærø island for international couples for more than 16 years and know the island in and out. We can recommend the best places for accommodation and meals, offer travel guides and more depending on your needs and size of your party. We have also gathered an extended team of our favourite photographer, make-up artist, cake maker and more.

  • Style & Design We will create a visual concept of your wedding day in our signature DIW style based on your personality, taste, favourite colours etc. Using locally grown seasonal flowers to create stunning bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, and floral arrangements, and our vast collection of vintage china, stemware, furniture, vases and other beautiful decor objects to set the mood.

  • Coordinate With Vendors We make sure the other vendors involved with your day (make-up artist, photographer, restaurant etc.) are available and updated on all relevant decisions and changes throughout the planning process.

Step 3: The Day Before

  • In Person Meeting - We meet with you in person the day before your wedding at our DIW office in the center of Ærøskøbing to go over any final details so everyone’s on the same page and you can get a good night’s sleep knowing that everything is well taken care of :-)

  • Flower Harvest - We harvest locally grown in-season flowers the day before your wedding right here on Ærø island and keep them cool and safe over night so they look their best for you the next day.

Step 4: The Day Of

  • Getting Ready - Our ‘getting ready room’, at the old Merchants House on Ærøskøbing town square is available for all our brides/couples.

  • Preperations & Event Styling - On the morning of your wedding there is so much going on behind the scenes and we are all busy bees, creating floral arrangements, picking up wedding cake, setting tables, putting champagne on ice, greeting the registrar and so much more. But the whole point is that you won’t have to worry about any of it except showing up and having the time of your lives ;-)

  • Day Of Coordination - We are of course present in person before, during, and after the ceremony, assisting you (and if you are hosting a wedding, your families/guests too) with a calm and thoughtful approach. We have done this for 16 years and are completely at ease in our surroundings and know how to make you feel at home too.

  • Marriage Certificate You immediately receive your marriage certificate in 5 languages: Danish, English, German, French and Spanish.

  • Clearing up - We handle all the clearing up and cleaning after your celebration, so you can enjoy your time on Ærø with the person or people you love

Step 5: After your wedding ceremony:

  • Apostille & Legalisation We can arrange for an Apostille from the Danish Foreign Ministry or full legalisation, if needed. An Apostille from the Danish Foreign Ministry is required for non-EU countries, so your marriage is recognized. Some countries will require full legalisation through the appropriate embassy. If you’re in doubt, just ask and we’ll advise accordingly.

  • Enjoy your life together!!! :-)
