Sustainable Winter Wedding Flowers
Voderup Klint is one of my favourite places on Ærø. I find inspiration in the landscape, where the mind is encouraged to wander freely in the changing light coming off the sea. So, in need of a winter boost, off I went, with Mira, Yuki, and beloved office dog Murphy, on a little inspiration shoot with photographer Camilla.
We are constantly striving to be more environmentally friendly in our little family-run wedding planning business, and it has long been an ambition of mine to be completely self-sufficient and source flowers all year round solely grown on Ærø.
We’re already 2/3 of the way there from May to October, but we haven’t quite been able to take the final jump in the winter months and early spring. In past years, we have had to rely on flowers shipped in, but with the rise in fashionable dried bouquets, I think 2023 might be the winter to go all in!
This will require on-point branding and clients/couples who are kindred spirits willing to go this route as well as some planning and creative thinking, but with the help and encouragement from my dear friend and flower grower at Sigridsminde, I think we’ll take the plunge!
Not only will you get a true feeling for our beautiful Ærø in all seasons, most importantly, it is much better for our planet!
If all you see is brown and grey in winter, look closely, and you will find shrubs, grasses, and weeds with beautiful dry seedsheads all about. And our trusty pigsty was the perfect rustic backdrop for these dried floral winter beauties.
As they say: beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;-)
